Bram van Ooijen is an independent consultant, working on the planning, design and implementation of sustainable urban transport policies and projects. His key expertise lies with non-motorized transport and parking, but has all-round affinity with sustainable urban transport, including road planning and design, public transport and TOD. Formerly leading ITDP China’s Non-motorized Transport (NMT) and Transportation Demand Management (TDM) divisions, Bram has 18 years of experience in the field. While trained in Dutch best practice at Twente University, he has extensive experience in China, Southeast Asia and South Asia. Based in Guangzhou, China for 13 years, he works with national, provincial, municipal and district-level politicians and government bureaus, as well as planning and design institutes, multi-lateral development banks (Asian Development Bank, World Bank), NGOs and foreign aid agencies around the globe.

For NMT, work includes planning, design and implementation of streets, greenways, bicycle networks, complete streets, access to transit (BRT) systems and transit oriented development (TOD). For parking, work includes on-street and off-street parking systems, parking policies, regulatory planning, institutional frameworks, parking technology and tender management.

Bram van Ooijen worked in 30+ Chinese cities, 17 cities across Asia, as well as in Africa, South America and the Pacific. He is also involved in advocacy, training and capacity building of stakeholders in the topics of sustainable urban transport for multilateral organizations. As an expert in the field he is presenter, trainer and author of reports and articles. He is an experienced guide for over 1,000 government officials and professionals from China and abroad, who visit urban transportation best practice projects in China, Europe and Korea.

Bram van Ooijen graduated from Twente University with a Master of Science in civil engineering & management, specializing in transportation. Before living and working in China, he was owner and managing director of a consultancy firm, working on civil engineering and (urban) transportation projects with public and private organizations in the Netherlands.
